Preparing for a new puppy!

Welcome to a new series about bringing home a new pup.

Preparing for a new pup actually begins long before the pup shows up.  Such an exciting time, adding a new family member.  Selecting the right pup will lead to a long a fufilling relationship!

So many questions will run through your head.  "What kind of dog should I get?"  "Which breed will work best for my family?"  "Will he/she be a good fit?"  "Would a puppy or older dog be a better choice?"

From the beginning it is essential to not only ask the question but answer it truthfully.  If you really want a running buddy, a Yorkie is probably not your best bet.  Likewise, a German Shepherd is not a good household fit if you need something that will just lay around the house.

Some of the questions to ask are:

  • What is your dog experience?
  • How much time will you devote to training?
  • What is your home like?
  • Do you have children under 10?
  • Is your household active?
  • Do you have other animals?

The answers to these questions and more will help you pick the right pup for your household.

Join us next week as we begin to go over the different dog groups and how those personalities can fit into your household.
